Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment (FemTouch)
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation with the FemTouch™ is an out-patient, minimally invasive, non-surgical, non-hormonal laser procedure for treating and improving vaginal health. With FemTouch™ you no longer have to live with painful and embarrassing genital and urinary symptoms. As women age, they experience changes in their vagina that are largely due to decreasing levels of the oestrogen hormone. FemTouch™ is an innovative CO2 laser technology, enabling the application of precise and controlled laser micro beams to the surface 0.5mm of the vaginal lining. This allows stimulation of new tissue growth, by triggering collagen production, improved blood flow and new surface cells.
What conditions can laser vaginal rejuvenation with the FemTouch treat?
Menopausal vaginal symptoms including:
- Dryness
- Painful sex
- Itching/burning/discomfort
- Stress incontinence
- Accidental leakage of urine with -coughing, laughing or running/jumping
Is the procedure painful?
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation with the FemTouch device is not painful, you will feel a slight heat sensation in the area only. No numbing nor analgesia is required. After the treatment, there can be some discomfort and swelling but usually only over the counter painkillers are required if any.
Who will I consult with for the vaginal rejuvenation treatment?
At GVSL you will see Dr Barbra Ward for the preparatory consultation and the treatments will also be done by Dr Barbra Ward. The preparatory consultation is a thorough assessment of your gynaecology, urology and menstrual history. It is necessary to have an up to date normal pap smear result prior to the vaginal rejuvenation procedure. If overdue this can be done by your usual GP or if you do not have one Dr Ward can do the pap smear (cervical screening test) at this appointment. You will also be examined to assess suitability for this procedure.
Is FemTouch safe? (Are there any complications?)
CO2 laser treatments were invented in the 1960s, but have only been used for vaginal indications in the past decade. Multiple studies have been published showing improvement in vulvovaginal health and the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence. FemTouch is safe for women who cannot take hormonal treatments due to a history of cancer, blood clots or focal migraines. As with any medical procedure, complications can occur but are limited to temporary minor discomfort, swelling, and discharge.
How many treatments are necessary?
A course of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended.
How much does laser vaginal rejuvenation cost?
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation with the FemTouch at GVSL costs $600 per treatment. A Medicare rebate is available for the GP consultation.
