Masseter muscle relaxation treatment
Whether you experience the symptoms as jaw clenching / tension, teeth grinding, temple pain or headache, temporomandibular joint pain or have noticed an unwanted squaring of the face / jawline, we have solutions for your symptoms.
Causes
Jaw clenching / grinding (bruxism)is a subconscious habit. It can even occur when you are asleep. So it is difficult to change by just trying hard not to, or with physio exercises.
At GVSL we successfully treat the symptoms with injections of a muscle relaxing medication into the masseter muscles in the cheeks. You will still be able to chew, smile and yawn, but this treatment takes away the excessive tension held in this muscle, allowing pain to subside.
Symptoms
- Pain in the jaw / cheeks
- Pain in the TMJs – the temporomandibular joints where the jawbone attaches to the cheekbone in front of the ear
- Dental / tooth grinding and erosion
- Temple pain or headache – unilateral or bilateral
- Square appearance of the face with bulky muscles in the lower cheeks
- Stress and tension
Treatments
After a medical assessment by one of our onsite doctors, we treat the masseter muscles with a pattern of deep injections of prescription medication that relaxes the muscle for 4-6 months.
3-5 days.
Every 4-6 months.
Some patients find that after around 4 treatments they have broken the habit of clenching and can successfully stop treatments without recurrence, or use other methods to manage milder symptoms. Other patients find the habit slowly returns and they need to come back for regular treatment sessions.
Treating overactive masseter muscles will slim your face and give a more aesthetically pleasing oval shape.
