Laser Facial Rejuvenation Geelong

At Geelong Veins, Skin & Laser we can now take our treatment capabilities to the next level with the ACUPULSE laser system for Laser Facial Rejuvenation. The ACUPULSE is what is called a fractional laser. Compared with earlier ablative laser systems the ACUPULSE has enhanced technology that enables shorter treatment times, lower costs, less discomfort and much reduced down time. This means the ACUPULSE technology represents significant advantages to patients seeking corrective laser treatment for scars, wrinkles, blemishes or overall laser facial rejuvenation.

How do fractional lasers for Laser Facial Rejuvenation work?

Fractional lasers treat the skin with enhanced micro-pulses of light which stimulate new collagen production. Fractional lasers target multiple tiny cones of skin tissue whilst leaving areas of normal tissue between the cones unaffected. This has the huge benefit of combining very effective treatment with very rapid healing.

Why the ACUPULSE fractional laser?

The ACUPULSE is a CO2 laser that uses the 10,600nm wavelength which is absorbed by water in the tissue. The laser energy heats up the water until it reaches a boiling point causing the evaporation of the affected tissue. Some heat is absorbed by tissue adjacent to the ablated target area, causing tissue coagulation which induces hemostasis (the cessation of bleeding) as well as thermal stimulation of deep skin layers, which induces fibroblast stimulation and neocollagenesis (the formation of new collagen). The laser beam is also transmitted through a scanner which is a device used to further control the delivery of energy. The scanner regulates the configuration of energy delivered onto the skin, which can range from covering the entire treatment area or just a fraction of it (leaving the areas in between untreated – also referred to as fractional ablation). The overall effect of ablation and coagulation, is the removal of skin and the stimulation of the body to replace it with newer, younger skin.

What can the ACUPULSE treat?

The ACUPULSE laser is specifically designed to treat acne scarring and in correcting signs of ageing, sun-damage, fine lines and wrinkles. Also excellent results can be achieved on surgical scars and certain stretchmarks. The ACUPULSE also treats the discolouration associated with ageing skin that results in age and sunspots as well as the hormonal pigmentation of melasma.

The use of lasers such as the ACUPULSE for skin rejuvenation is one of the most sought after skin treatments available today to help people look and feel younger.

How long does a Laser Facial Rejuvenation treatment take?

The procedure is performed in our clinic rooms with treatment time dependent on the size of the area being treated, but it typically takes about 30mins.

Does Laser Facial Rejuvenation hurt?

The ACUPULSE laser is extremely well tolerated but as it can be felt on the skin it is recommended that a topical anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment to minimise any discomfort.

What happens after treatment?

Because the procedure does not remove the entire outer skin layer you can resume normal activities soon after treatment. The skin typically has a pinkish colour for 5-7 days after treatment. If swelling occurs it is usually minor and generally resolves in about 2 days.  Swelling or other symptoms can occur for larger treatment areas, your dermal therapist will advise you if this is expected and give specific care instructions.

How many Laser Facial Rejuvenation treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments varies with the problem being treated and the level of improvement required. Typically a series of 3-5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart produces optimal results. As collagen is being stimulated the results are progressive with noticeable beneficial effects accumulating over several months after each treatment.
