Why should you be using this powerhouse product?
Vitamin C, who needs to be using it and why?
The simple answer to this is: all skin types will benefit from Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) and for many reasons. We know that Vitamin C is an essential part of our diet, however it is also an important step in our skincare routine. The human body does not produce its own Vitamin C but relies on obtaining it through nutritional and topical applications. Vitamin C has long been hailed as the ultimate skin fortifier and brightener. This product comes with an abundance of essential skin antioxidants and is the perfect daily partner to sunscreen in addressing free radical damage, uneven skin tone, UV damage and ageing.
Vitamin C has properties of a tyrosinase inhibitor which means it inhibits melanin production in the skin, which helps to lighten hyperpigmentation and brown spots, even out skin tone, and enhance skin radiance.
Top reasons to include Vitamin C in your skincare regime:
- Skin brightening
- Fights the effects of ageing
- Improves photo damage (ie sun damage)
- Lightens brown spots, pigmentation, dark under eye circles
How do you choose the best Vitamin C product for your skin?
As a water-soluble and charged molecule, Vitamin C is repelled by the physical barrier of the epidermal cells. Therefore, it is only when pH levels are below 4 and the Vitamin C is present as ascorbic acid that penetration into the skin can occur. For the purpose of topical applications of ascorbic acid, a great deal of research and effort must go into the development of a Vitamin C product in order for it to be effective in terms of skin health. Ascorbic acid derivatives must maintain stability of the molecule from oxidation as well as overcome the challenges of successful skin penetration. Vitamin C preparations are often formulated as powders in order to maintain stability and avoid oxidation which renders them less potent. At GVSL we work with science-based skin care brands that have a great depth of research and development into their formulations, to develop effective Vitamin C skin care products.
